Description

Bio
Name: Galena
Age: Roughly early to mid-twenties
Pack(s): Ex-Shadowed Sky, Poison Night Pack
Rank: Head Beta
Personality: Fun-loving, fearless, caring, mischievous, loyal
God: Aton of Egypt, master of Amenta - a realm similar to the underworld between Life and the Void (Death)
Powers: Healing of emotional and physical wounds (in human/anthro form), fusion with Aton (in wolf form), key to the portal between the mortal plane and Amenta/the Void. Carries no weapons.
Weaknesses: Fire severely weakens her, portal's powers can overrun her own, and she is fearful of the day she cannot save a dying comrade.
Likes: Ghost, laughter, running, playing, just enjoying life in general.
Dislikes: Manipulation, fire, hatred, corruptions that lead to fear (like paranoia or mental things like schitzophrenia)

:iconshadowsand: asked me to draw a full ref of her *Poison-Night-Pack character Galena in return for a subby for the pack, and after a month of working on it: here it is! :D I hope you like it, you're a really good reind and I wanted it to be the best it could be - especially as you're having such a rough time lately

I do have an apology to make though. She did ask me to do her human form as well, but I'm afraid the pile of screwed up paper in the bin is testament to my complete inability to draw it. I'm having a real block with humans at the moment, I'm sorry, but as soon as I manage to get a decent sketch I'll add it to his page. The clothes also aren't quite right, as I didn't see the human ref before I drew the anthro. Sorry again! =(

But anyway, I hope she likes her Egyptian queen ;)

Egypt! My first time critiquing a piece inspired by said culture (directly at least. )
Here, the piece has an impressive shade and highlighting, the fur appeares in cold color tones but even so, that doesn't mar the fur (though the semi opaque white doesn't make sense to me, as it should just be a lighter version of the base color...right?)
The structure is decent and to the point, like a concept art piece should be as I've come to accept and agree...but the facial expression seems misproportioned-it's the eyes! THE EYES!! They and the length of the snout look strange to meeee!!! However, I'll state that I'm not used to drawing canine anatomy or furries outside of certain breeds of dogs, and even then their just masks, so perhaps I'm pushing my opinion where it shouldn't be focused.
My final nit pick is that the tail fur seems, uhr, gelled and spicky, not natural in that you'd never see a dog with that kind of hair work unless wet and/or gelled.
But I will give a pro to this piece, the background and outfit really do empower complimentary elements on the character(s), all while adding cultural life to it with clever additions of heiroglyphs and attire familiar to certain places within Egypt, hell, it's more inventive than what I'm used to drawing in regards to women...kimonos are nice, what's wrong with having a kimono?

All in all, a refreshing piece of work portraying an undernoticed culture within the DA community in regards to what I've seen. The artist has great structure and ideas to pull her through, and even though there are slight problems here and there, they're just that, slight. A job well done to you, my good friend! KUDOS!!
